What we do:
America’s Watershed Initiative (AWI) began out of the recognition of a challenge: how do organizations across the 31 states and over 250 rivers that constitute the Mississippi River Watershed work together? Of all the large watersheds in the United States, the Mississippi River Watershed is the only without formal coordination of programmatic activities and comprehensive dedicated funding across its sub-Basins; America’s Watershed Initiative works to fill this gap.
Our Projects:
The only organization working across the entire basin and across all sectors, AWI’s has two main focuses: sound science and data gathering to inform decision-making and Watershed-wide planning. We foster dialogue, build coalitions and promote solutions. AWI has convened hundreds of leaders across the Watershed, and we seek to elevate the work of Watershed champions in order to connect people and leverage model approaches to improve water quality, flood control and risk reduction, climate and more.
