A survey by the Meridian Institute and The Nature Conservancy confirmed what many had sensed: stakeholders across the basin could no longer get what they needed without working together. That same year, America’s Inner Coast Summit brought together attendees from 20 states and 76 organizations. General Michael Walsh issued a call for a 200-year vision for the river, and attendees asked The Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to form a steering committee for a new “America’s Watershed Initiative.”
